I think the best way to present ourselves is using storytelling. Personally I also choose some details in my outfit that will help me being remembered. I like starting with a question and having true curiosity for the stories of the other people. Carefully quit or change the pitch to some questions also if it isn't working or don't see interest on it. At networking events sometimes I found people to work with on different topics than I expected, but this is also the power of these situations.

Networking events can be overwhelming, and it's sometimes hard to stay focused on your goals. Spend some time in advance planning what are your must-have takeaways from the event, and what is only a nice-to-have. I am introverted, so having these goals planned ahead of time gives me a nice "checklist" to accomplish, forcing me to be more confident and bold in meeting others for the first time. This list is what I need to accomplish to get the most out of the event. Anything else is a nice extra!
