During all stages of development you’ll have to constantly advocate for your vision. As more people get involved, it will continually become more difficult. However, if you anchor your project with the right collaborators in the beginning, and everyone has a clear understanding of the vision, it will be much easier to keep things on the track from the start, which should always be the aim.

I believe you need to read the script a few times alone. You should sit with the characters in the scenes and the story. Understand each characters situation to the best of your knowledge. Talk with the writer also, then meet with the producers and DP. and the colaboration begin!!

I like to work closely with my DP to get the vision on film. I give him opportunity to make suggestions. I ask them to explain clearly what they see if they want to change a shot. The key is to make a great film we can all be proud of while having fun!

Define your vision and believe in it. If you believe in your vision, that good energy will make others excited about your vision. Think it out and be very clear. and yes one has to adapt and make some compromises. This may be due to budget or other considerations, but a clear vision to start with go a long way.
