By doing this, you can tailor your approach and communication to suit each situation and avoid potential conflicts.

Creating an innovative aspirations and paradigmatic shift towards disruptive innovation calls highly for an agile team which will not only be democratic across hierarchical power structure but also will possess the zeal for open culture. Scrum methodologies certainly help in these scenarios. But innovation across multiple projects should follow the below guidelines- 1. Portfolio consisting of different projects should achieve maximised benefits 2. Team building through learning & retrospective analysis for future resilience 3. Stakeholders feedback and continuous communication would help to align the requirement 4. Least overlapping between benefits and teams responsibilities 5. Mitigation of risks through integration

In my opinion multi project scenarios or portfolios call for what i call ‘project empathy’ so while managing a portfolio you need to be clear of the context of each project, by this i mean there could be an interface or a value delivery relationship between projects in your portfolio. As the projects themselves may be competing for resources/ prioritization within the portfolio one needs to appreciate the context of each project which in turn could also be a constraint in order to develop your own ‘critical path’ of your portfolio. Successful programmes and portfolios are the ones which achieve the overarching objective not necessarily meeting individual project objectives.

It might sound cliche but at times lines such as ‘Deliver Together ‘ or ‘ We built it’ are essential for setting the collaborative mindset, as i said in my earlier contributions that as projects within portfolio compete for resources and prioritization, an overall theme or slogan does set rules of engagement and collaboration at the very outset of projects. Nowadays at mega projects such as NEOM an integrated delivery approach is being used. This would bring efficiency and reduce blame game and potential commercial fallouts.

This step is usually much easier said than done. Especially in large corporate environments. It takes very specific actions and support from top management to enable the teams to go for it. The project manager needs to have the buy-in from management for this and it's wise to establish these guidelines in written form early on in the project - best to describe that in the project specification. Developing something new (even a prototype) is a hard exercise - especially in hardware sector. The project sponsors need to kept aware of that and the estimated efforts need to be captured already in the initial budgets.
