How can you learn and network in executive coaching?

This can be an AMAZING way to connect with like minded leaders -- but many high performers are heads down helping clients, vs active in professional associations, so taking a personal touch and good ole relationship building works too!

The art isn't just in the accumulation of knowledge but in its curated application. Joining a professional association like ICF, AC, or EMCC isn't just a resume booster; it's your gateway to a nuanced understanding of the craft. These organizations are not merely clearinghouses of best practices but are intellectual salons where the zeitgeist of executive coaching is continually defined and refined. Get your ICF credential, be a member of as many organizations as possible, and try to participate to their events.

Being active, regardless of where is also key! But trying to do to much and not focusing will cause you to spread yourself too thin.

YES, social media if done right and done well can be an AMAZING WAY to build your brand, get awareness and get clients! But unless this is built on a foundation of coaching excellence and experience, it could fall a bit flat -- this can create a chicken and an egg scenario, but getting actual coaching under your belt is priority #1 in most situations!

YES YES and MORE YES!!! This is a great way to learn, grow, contribute, build relationships and level up FASTER than almost any other thing you can do!

Keep coaching others and keep being coached by a coach for yourself. Sharpen the saw in not just learning your work related skills but also in coaching related skills as "being coachable" will set you apart from others. How much ever successful you may have become, still have a coach for yourself who will help your discover the new strengths in you. Do we know that without we realizing we accumulate a lot of strengths and unfortunately we don't even know many of them. A great coach can help you discover that and make the benefits reach the world.

One thing that is not explicitly mentioned here is coaching supervision. While it's somewhat similar to a mastermind group, it's specific to coaching and dedicated to the growth and community of the coaches within the group. When it comes to learning, there are also a number books and areas of active research (psychology, sociology, neuroscience, etc) to read and absorb.

Most of the executive coaches I've met have come from creating my own content and spreading thought leadership. Great executive coaches are highly discerning. So if you want to attract a network of high level coaches, sharing your expertise through content is the best way I've found to do that. I think of every article or video I create as an asset in my growing portfolio. It shows other coaches I'm someone worth connecting with. It shows potential clients I know what I'm talking about. And it shows everyone else interesting, effective strategies they can apply to their own lives and share with others.
