Get to know the business. Spend time with the business leaders and learn priorities, where the company is going short/long term strategies. Share this information with your team and champion for them to attend department meetings, participate by sharing state of recruiting and sharing important information about what is happening in TA and recruiting trends for their function will help your recruiting team to be seen as a strategic partner. Being able to understand the strategic goals of departments and organization is vital to ensure that you are hiring the right people. This will also help in creating better job ads and sharing information with candidates to attract the right talent.

Be prepared: Plan ahead for interviews, meetings and any other interactions with candidates. 3. Be authentic: It's important to be yourself and let your personality shine through in conversations with candidates. 4. Listen actively: Pay attention to what candidates are saying, ask follow-up questions and show genuine interest in their responses 5. Stay up-to-date: Keep up with the latest recruiting trends and technologies to stay ahead of the game. Remember, confidence comes with experience and practice. Keep these tips in mind, stay positive and keep pushing forward!

Earlier in my career I thought I was expected to know everything. I was scared that asking questions would make me seem unintelligent - but I would argue that sometimes being vulnerable and honest about not knowing all the answers can be a great way to build trust with your hiring leaders and team. When you ask clarifying questions, it shows people that you care and want to help them to the best of your ability. You don't need to know everything, you just need to show you're interested in what they have to say and care about doing the best job to support them. Intelligence is helpful but leading with empathy and curiosity will take you further than you could ever imagine.

In my experience, as you enter a new recruiting role or organization, it’s important to get to know the business leaders, decision makers, and cross functional partners. Scheduling short, informal virtual (or in person) coffee chats is a great way to introduce yourself to colleagues and helps to build rapport. Getting to know the leaders will help you better understand the business, the top priorities, projects they are currently focused on, and the direction their headed.

My favorite quote is "Dig your well before you're thirsty" meaning you should build relationships with people before you need to leverage them. As Recruiters, we need to have a general understanding of how departments operate and how individual roles connect across various touchpoints in order to effectively recruit talent for those positions. The easiest way to understand the business is to create contacts cross-functionally. Sometimes, we need to call in favors or quickly build trust/rapport with business leaders and the best way to do that is to find ways to connect whether it's grabbing coffee with them or volunteering with a project they're involved in. The goal is to make the connection before you need a favor.

Building an internal network within your organization and an external network on social media platforms can significantly help Recruiters. Having a strong presence on LinkedIn will build trust and reputation for the organization and candidates are more likely to apply to jobs for an organization they are familiar with.

Referrals are the best form of hiring. In my experience, the strength of your network and relationships significantly impacts success. Establishing trust and collaboration with teams, managers, and peers isn't just beneficial; it's essential. Leveraging insights and referrals from these connections enriches the hiring process. Moreover, nurturing these relationships – staying in touch, providing value, and showing appreciation – not only enhances your influence and reputation in recruiting but also opens doors to untapped potential and opportunities. Remember, a strong network isn't a bad thing.

Confidence comes from knowledge obtained and lived experiences. While our experiences are building us day after day, increasing our knowledge requires a proactive approach. Seek out market data and insight through reading and conversations. Test a variety of tools and programs to identify what works best for your team and your needs. Take networking calls and seek out informational interviews to gain a real understanding of the market, and individual experiences. Take courses, attend events, and immerse yourself in industry experiences to further develop yourself. Never stop learning. When you think you're the smartest person the room, humble yourself, then go learn from someone more "junior" than you.

Developing skills is an ongoing process, and staying curious and open to learning will contribute to long-term success in the recruiting profession. As a recruiter myself, there are always ways I am looking to deepen my skills and expand my knowledge. There are numerous and wonderful websites that provide interesting and important articles regarding recruiting trends, new technologies, recruitment best practices, recent legislation, etc. Networking is another way to develop skills and knowledge as this provides opportunities for learning, sharing insights, and staying updated on industry news. Investing in ongoing education and training, designed for recruiters, is another meaningful way to develop skills and knowledge.

Recruiters need to continuously develop and refine their skills with talent and market analysis, sourcing, outreaching and engaging candidates, interviewing, and hiring to attract and hire top talent. What worked yesterday may not work today or tomorrow so keep leaning into and adopt the most current and up-to-date strategies, technologies, platforms, methods, and fresh new ideas.

Develop Your Skills and Knowledge: 1. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest recruitment technologies, methodologies, and legal requirements to maintain a competitive edge. 2. Seek Feedback: Regularly seek feedback from candidates and hiring managers to refine your recruitment process and interpersonal skills. 3. Recruitment is a game of earning credibility, and earning it fast, with industry professionals that you may or may not have ever spoken to before. You earn credibility by being incredibly knowledgable about your space, about your roles, about their business impact, and most definitely about your company/client. Knowing your stuff, knowing it well, and being able to articulate it concisely. The more you develop your knowledge base - the more confident you will come across to your candidates. Attend events, read books, watch youtube videos - learn about your industry, clients, and roles as extensively as possible. Practice your pitches and talk to as many people as you can.

This is a mindset thing; change your language to reflect a more positive outlook during change and adversity. Title things as opportunities not challenges, they are fascinating not frustrating, and be curious not concerned. This will all help to become better at embracing change and overcoming adversity.

Leading with confidence means humanising your experience and that it took right turns, backward steps, starting again and celebrating with passion the successes. Be prepared to learn from those you lead Acknowledge you don’t have all the answers and encourage your team to collaborate, contribute and share their ideas and their mistakes, by doing so creates an environment that is psychological safe but innovative and supportive.

To become a successful recruiter initially, you need to have a proper plan. What strategies need to be implemented for hiring? What kind of challenges and threats will be there? Who is the target market? What's the best social media tool that can be used to reach the correct people? Also, you need to update yourself in terms of industry trends and best practices every day by doing market research or SWOT analysis. You and your team should have a proper way of communication between the candidates and clients. Once you follow the above steps, now it’s time to make decisions. Be proactive in terms of finalizing the candidates and trust your decision that it will never fail and never detract from the culture of your organization.

Things that I have found helpful in leading with confidence as a recruiting professional include: - Adaptability: Stay flexible and open to evolving strategies to meet changing job market and candidate expectations, staying ahead in the field. - Data-driven decisions: Utilize data and analytics for informed choices, refining processes, and showcasing strategy effectiveness through recruitment metrics. - Emotional intelligence: Develop the ability to connect with candidates by understanding their motivations, building rapport, and making successful placements. - Strong communication: Effective communication is crucial; improve your skills in conveying information clearly, active listening, and confident negotiation.

Have a strong introduction to your calls that builds confidence in the candidate that you're the person they should be speaking with. Learn the 3 P's (Purpose, Process & Payoff). An abridged version example: "Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today... (Purpose) The purpose of this call is to (Process) dive deep into your background so I can learn more you and your career aspirations with the (Payoff) goal of placing you in your dream career - how does that sound"? Why do some recruiters have frequent no-shows for interviews or have shallow relationships with their candidates? This is why! They have not positioned themselves as driven, purposeful and valuable to the candidate. Build that confidence from the start!

Remember that - while the hiring manager (internal or external) may be the expert in their area of focus - that YOU are the expert in YOUR area of focus - recruiting. You’re a strategic talent advisor, and you should embrace the mindset of being a partner to the hiring manager, not an “order-taker.” You’re not taking someone’s order - you’re helping the hiring manager fill a vacancy that’s needed to benefit the company. Your job is to coach and educate them on best practices, the current internal (if you’re a corporate recruiter) and external labor market, as well as set realistic expectations so they understand how long a search would take for that position, etc. The better your relationship, the better is your chance to become an advisor.

I am a firm believer that if you learn something you think is helpful for you in your career, you shouldn’t gatekeep the information. I think it’s important to share my expertise on panels and participate in various workshops where I can use my knowledge to help others either break into the entertainment industry or into the recruiting field. By doing this I’m able to help broaden my network and grow my personal brand/reputation in this business. Beyond that, I feel that all ships rise with the tide, so if I help others succeed it will ultimately come back around to help me grow. Remember, sharing is caring. The more knowledge you gain, the more you should spread the wealth so you can help bring others up alongside you!

A big part of recruitment is nailing your communication. You aren't supposed to know all the answers. But if you communicate with honesty and compassion then you won't go wrong.

In my experience staying adaptable is quite helpful. You need to be prepared to pivot and make changes as and when necessary. Adapt your strategies to align with the changing landscape. Flexibility is key in a fast-growing organization. In today's fast-moving environment everything is uncertain so, be ready to respond to uncertainties and challenges with confidence, knowing that you can find solutions and make data-backed decisions.

Authenticity and transparency is key. Candidates often feel like they aren't being told the truth or provided feedback. Recruitment is a social business that requires human connection. You can set yourself a part a build a great reputation by just showing up and being human. Tell them what you're looking for, tell them the salary range and be honest if its a fit or not and why. It doesn't have to be complicated.

Remember that you are your company's first impression on the candidates specially if you are recruiting passive candidates. This is both a big opportunity and responsibility to show up and show well in the first, among many, interactions! Lots of my leader hires shared with me afterwards that my passion and conviction about the team, the company and the role was one of the main drivers of their decision to join our company. How you present yourself and the company on that first call/s carries a big impact on recruiting the best candidates for your organization!
