Depending on the level of repair, I tend to download applicable drivers, and prefer to put other peoples systems on a separate vlan than business computers to receive updates.

Again this depends on the level of repair, it is a good practice if you have the ability to do a back up if practicable. Full drive back ups take time and may not be possible due to level of repair needed. If the system has no power or not able to move past POST, is it worthwhile to pull a drive and place into a stand alone system to do a full system backup? Probably not.
