What's helping and what's hard? Leadership must listen without judgment. Next, transparent decisions. Explain why AI gets certain roles and how employees fit going forward. Show you considered their goals and strengths. Also, focus support on purpose over procedures. Technology handles routine tasks but can't provide meaning. Nurture creativity, judgment and compassion - the heart of human work. Finally, flexibility. Adjustments will be ongoing as AI evolves. Give people space to adapt without pressure.

Engagement begins with listening. Understanding employee aspirations and AI's role in their workflow is vital. It's about aligning tech with human ambition, not imposing it.

Being more productive, more efficient leveraging AI may help to spend more time on recharging your batteries. And even when it is your out-of-work time, AI is something that can make your life easier: AI based shopping, AI for booking flights and hotels, AI to translate when you’re traveling, AI for… you name it!

Empower people to take part in implementation - don't just hand down fixed policies. Ask "How can we improve this?" People support what they help build. And connect staff to AI experts outside the company to stay on the cutting edge.

It encourages team members to think creatively about the applications of AI in their work, leading to a better understanding and acceptance of AI technologies. Plus, it can also lead to discovering innovative uses of AI that might not have been considered before.

While it is important to set guidelines for the safe and secure use of AI, employees should be allowed to get creative with using the provided tools. Micromanaging the use of AI will generate the value of only automating tasks already being done. However, the pairing of talented team members with capable AI models can result in much higher value outputs. It is important to give your employees the space to generate innovations with the help of AI, within the specified guidelines that ensure security from data leakage of highly restricted information.

Ai is a very futuristic term. Even using it invites misalignment. Often by the time you’ve explained what it means, and what it doesn’t, you have lost the original drive and motivation. My suggestion is .. as a senior leader, not talk about AI at all. Talk about working smarter, more effectively. Invite suggestions for improvement, for creativity. Use the idea of intelligent tools like AI to manifest these ideas at scale. They are still human innovations just helped by technology.

In my view, the key to keeping employees engaged while using AI lies in two main areas. Firstly, it's crucial to establish a clear strategy from the outset on how AI will be utilized within the company. This provides a roadmap and sets expectations for all involved. Secondly, education is paramount. Ensuring that employees are well-versed in the use and benefits of AI not only empowers them but also fosters a sense of ownership and engagement. You must be involved in it too. Experience it first hand, see how easily things go wrong and right, and learn alongside everyone else. Then provide practical help and insight, best practices, and guide the policies around this. Designate certain people to tackle challenges that come up on demand. Treat this with the seriousness and responsibility it deserves guided by your own interest in it. There's nothing worse than leaving everyone to figure it out themselves or to have leaders detached from the process. As the Sports Illustrated C-level firings over AI use makes clear, leads and teams need to understand how this tech works and is used. You must be present and accounted for - no matter your position or role.
