Whilst I agree with setting SMART goals etc the most important stage in sustainability is a context based understanding of your organisation or portfolio’s impact on the environment and what stakeholders will expect over time. You can do this with a double materiality +. So often we see well meaning ESG reports that hit the mark but miss the point entirely. Organisations are walking into areas of risk through greenwashing when they only understand a snapshot of impacts and approach sustainability with box ticking. Critically the interconnected nature of planetary boundaries must be the focus. Sustainability is no longer just a nice thing to do for firms it is a risk avoidance and resilience building strategy.

These tools help quantify the often-hidden costs and benefits related to nature, making it easier to prioritize and act on preserving and restoring biodiversity. I need to focus more on subjects like Building construction; we can find many studies that give us information about the waste generated and how much raw materials the building construction consumes, as well as studies about the dust generated. That makes sustainable construction focus more on limiting the impacts on these areas, but what about biodiversity.? Construction, especially on virgin land, has a significant impact on biodiversity.! I will follow this post with another focus on the impact of construction on virgin land and its biodiversity.
