It's useful to provide key points in a short bullet-pointed summary for participants to read, with a link to the full policy below. This is more likely to get the key points read by your participants.

Most users cannot read and understand dense / legal language. Simplify it. Make it user friendly. Make it in bullet points. Not in very small - difficult to read fonts but in big bold fonts.

Giving participants clear understanding on how their data will be used before they even agree to participate is what works for me. I usually send the information on how we are going to use their data right in the recruitment email.

It’s better to make sure that we have someone on the team who keeps track if new regulations so that our data policy template is up to date. We, designers, are often busy with other things. In out case everything connected to security is monitored by security team. We get information about new regulations from them.
