Finally, user adoption is ongoing; maintain team engagement post-implementation.

I have a rather simplistic view of achieving user adoption. The problem comes when user adoption is targeted with a heavy top down view. Rather, it makes sense to design user adoption at user level or user group level and measure the improvements and intervention at the same level. Effectiveness measurement with a tangible view, say % adoption in a particular BU for a particular product line is X%.

Absolutely critical to success - engage employees from the start of a project and to keep them aware throughout. That's why a change management professional should be identified and recruited to the project team from the start. The longer you keep employees in the dark the more resistance to change will grow.

Creating a positive approach to change leads to a reduction in the risk of resistance to it. Actions such as creating awareness of changes through clarifying processes, implementing the development processes with the participation of users and stakeholders, holding general and specialized training, receiving feedback from users are helpful and suggested.

Training and support are essential for increasing ERP software user adoption. However, the depth and method of training often determine its success. A holistic approach that encompasses both technical know-how and real-world application ensures that users don't just know how to use the system but understand its intrinsic value. You need to provide your employees with adequate training and support that match their needs, preferences, and learning styles. You can use various methods and formats, such as online courses, webinars, videos, manuals, guides, FAQs, forums, mentors, coaches, etc. You should also customize your training and support according to the different roles, functions, and levels of your employees.

Depending on the culture of the company, one can/ should create different channels of communication be it formal or informal between the users and the consultants and/or with single point of contact from the company. The most you interact directly with the users the chances are high that they feel free to share their concerns and this allow a better adoption of the ERP Software. Sometimes employees are scared to speak in meeting, so even an anonymous approach can be used to provide feedback.

Based on my observations, employees often resist ERP due to the fear of being replaced or losing their job. In my opinion, a strong HR department and effective change management can help facilitate a smoother transition for users. Additionally, it is crucial to identify and communicate the personal benefits of ERP to employees, beyond the fact that it will make their job easier. It also helps to have "Change Agents" employees that will advocate the change coming.
