1 Feedback from your team

Creating a culture of trust and openness is essential for getting honest and constructive feedback from your team. To do this, ask for feedback regularly and sincerely, listen actively and empathetically, and act on feedback promptly and transparently. When asking for feedback, don't wait for formal performance reviews or surveys; instead, ask your team members how they are doing, what they need from you, and how you can help them. When listening, don't interrupt, judge, or defend yourself; instead, listen to understand their perspective, acknowledge their feelings, and appreciate their input. Finally, when acting on feedback, don't ignore or dismiss it; show that you value it by making changes, following up, and sharing your progress.

In my experience, what I believe is that feedback is a fuel to your growth however majority of team members are not yet prepared to take feedback positively & work upon. The best way is to first inculcate the habit of creating a feedback forum for all comprising both the strength & weakness of team members. An effective feedback should be: 1) Quick (most of the time) 2) Polite 3) Helpful 4) Positive 5) Important 6) Acted upon Thanks.

In my opinion, while giving feedback what needs to be focused is that you are not creating a negative impact on them. So first appreciate them for their performance, then tell them how this can be enhanced more by adding just a few things and share your feedback politely, so that if they have any confusion or doubts they can come back to you for clarity and that's how you can grow by developing your team.

A transparent and harmonious environment is the key towards genuine service. Humble and empathic attitude leads to get insights from various channels that can truly help to find core reason behind any problem. Keeping an open ear for team always helps to get field trouble and solution which possibly can't be predicted from office or self analysis. An internal feedback channel not only helps to get true insight but also develops a bond and relationship of trust between internal hierarchies.

2 Feedback from your customers

Your customers are the ultimate judges of your team's service quality, and it is essential to get useful and timely feedback from them. To do this, you need to create a feedback system that is easy and convenient for customers to use, such as online surveys, email, or text messages. Additionally, make sure the questions you ask are specific and relevant to your team's performance. Moreover, don't just collect feedback and forget about it; analyze it, share it with your team, and use it to improve your service. Finally, respond to feedback, especially negative or critical ones, by apologizing, explaining, and offering solutions.

The service industry is all about customers being the center to all the work value. No matter any feedback, it's an opportunity to improve ourselves. Feedback or you may say complaints are actually a second chance and opportunity which the customer puts in the brand that it can resolve the concern. There is no such thing as negatives, it's always the scope of improvement which we should look for in the long term. We can conclude in another way that no feedback is just a feedback, every customer feedback is important as well as urgent to be taken under immediate consideration with special care.

Creating a network of peer support is essential for getting valuable and diverse feedback from your peers. To do this, it’s important to ensure that the relationship is reciprocal and respectful. Ask for feedback, but also offer your own. Respect their opinions and preferences, and don’t impose your views or criticize their choices. Additionally, make sure to give specific and constructive feedback that highlights their strengths, suggests areas for improvement, and provides examples and tips. Lastly, don’t wait for formal or occasional events to exchange feedback; make it a regular and consistent practice through monthly meetings, online forums, or mentorship programs.

As a field service engineer, yourself is the most important source of feedback on your team management skills. To give yourself effective and honest feedback, you need to practice self-awareness and self-regulation that is objective and realistic, positive and motivational, and continuous and adaptive. Evaluate yourself based on facts and evidence, not emotions or assumptions. Acknowledge your achievements and successes as well as your flaws or failures. Monitor your own performance and behavior regularly and proactively, adjusting your feedback and actions based on changing situations and feedback from other sources. Feedback is a powerful tool to improve your team management skills. By seeking and using feedback from your team, customers, peers, and yourself, you can enhance communication, guidance, support, recognition of your team, deliver better service, meet customer expectations, and achieve goals.
