1 Set clear goals and rules

Coming from a sports coaching background I couldn’t agree more. Setting proper, meaningful, and realistic goals is essential (for athletes) to maximize their potential and achieve success. Goals help to show a pathway towards a specific outcome, give direction and motivation. On the other side though, and this is often overlooked: goals also help you to evaluate your performance! Was this a productive day for you? Was the meeting a success? Can you start celebrating the new deal you just finalized? Well, that depends on the goals you have set, doesn’t it?! If you haven’t had set any – how would you know whether you were successful or not?

Clear goals and rules give confidence to work to each person in the team. They can discuss each others to find appropriate solution to solve the problems from it's root and provide permanent solution. This process of brain storming provides solutions in short time and gives satisfaction to each member as each one part of team can share his/her thoughts. It can be Root Cause Analysis which is also called as Why-Why analysis... This 5 times why questions on any issue will lead to reach the right solution on any or repeated failures. To know the process or system in detail is the key in this process. Provide solution with happiness. Become happy solution provider which can help to achieve desired goals.

After you finish brainstorming or making decisions, you should not just move on to the next task. You should take some time to reflect and improve on your process and outcomes. Ask yourself and your team members what worked well and what could be improved, what you learned and what you still need to learn, and what you enjoyed and what you found challenging. You can also ask for feedback from other stakeholders or experts, or test your ideas or decisions in real situations. This will help you learn from your experience, identify gaps or errors, and make adjustments for the future.

Brainstorming, as typically done in most teams, often comes with challenges like groupthink, social loafing and "blocking" (people who wait for their turn to speak and refrain fro sharing) to state but a few. To optimize the process, it helps to preemtively consider the following 3 tips: 1/ Share the objective/topic of the session *in advance* 2/ Ask for people to individually prepare 3-7 ideas beforehand 3/ Nominate an impartial facilitator who will lead the session. That person should also everyone *suspends* judgement throughout the session Bonus Tip: 4/ Ensuring the group works in silence, ideally by sharing their ideas on sticky notes at first, will minimize the effects of anchoring and conformity and optimize inclusion.
