One of the best ways to be more creative in the implementation of sustainable practices is to communicate and collaborate with our vendors. Although I have a vision for sustainability, I often don't know what solutions are available to me. My vendors, on the other hand -- especially those who are quite experienced in working with events -- will have likely seen dozens of solutions throughout their various contracts. AND they may also have some idea of which solutions seemed more practical or effective... even if they are outside the scope of what they supply or do. In this respect vendors can do more for us than provide services; they can be a wealth of knowledge and experience, of course happy to help!
