Gaps and Opportunities: Identify what's missing in your current outreach activities and what a partner could bring to fill these gaps.

Do a SWOT Analysis to tap into where you are as an institution/organization, especially if you are new to community outreach, the institution/organization, and/or field. Get your team or seasoned professionals in your org. and trusted community members (like dedicated volunteers or regular recipients of your goods/services) to help you with that SWOT analysis. The information from the analysis and from the people who have been in the institution and community will really benefit your strategy and the marketing that will eventually go along with it.

Here is my criteria in evaluating potential community outreach partners hosting an event…the factors are marketing the event (what media utilized), what means or methods to attract potential attendees (ie. a special presentation, speaker or entertainment); are there any freebies such as premiums, raffles, food, workshops, etc., how are they tracking potential attendees (are they sending out blast emails in collecting RSVP’s), are they promoting and attracting previous, current or brand new attendees, what social media channels are they using and are they comparing people invited versus those actually showing up to the event. As an event sponsor, I look at the cost, brand visibility, # of people pre-registered & their event track record.
