In the field, make sure to involve and introduce them to the people you work with. Make them important and while doing that supervise their work, be their lifeline so to say, so that they know they have a fall back for when things become too far out of their comfort zone or overwhelming. The above only needs to be done a couple of times until your mentees are recognised by the people they work with and approached directly.

It is even more appreciated when the organisation realises that you bring besides "hands" also "brains" to the event. Don't be surprised to rapidly climb the ladder in an event organisation. Even though it's volunteering only, it massively helps them gaining experience and expanding their network.

A successful event is a reason to celebrate. Even when things went wrong. I actually prefer that some things go wrong as they are better teaching moments. Mostly things that go wrong are only noticed by staff and not by people attending an event. The biggest take away is always that "the show must go on". Afterwards, when things come to an end, evaluate and celebrate the take aways both the positive ones and the "for improvement" ones. Give genuine compliments. Even when something went wrong, there are also things that went well for the same person.
