For case manager prioritizing their task is consider as the one of important aspect. For this in my opinion they should know about time management because time management is a basic skill. Having outstanding time management skills is essential to becoming a responsible case manager to make balance between workload and quality care. This essential ability is necessary for scheduling appointments on time, ensuring that care plans have appropriate time frames, and scheduling administrative tasks.

Most Managers do a good job at promoting self-care within their team. The problem is greater than the individual Manager, as recognition and "sense of worth" is a top-down issue. The onus for employee well-being seems to always fall on the shoulders of the employees themselves. Let's be clear: burnout isn't accidental - it's a direct result of going above and beyond with no recognition. Kudos and "good jobs" do not pay the bills. Your direct supervisor can do a tremendous job at supporting you, but when you have gone years without an increase in pay while the cost of living is increasing, it's easy to recognize that those at the top do not value your contributions.

As a Supervisor, make sure to include the CM ‘s input on what tasks are less critical and more routine and which tasks would be most helpful to that CM. Ensure that there is clear communication within the Team and that they continuously work together for the betterment of the cases.

In a leadership position, ensure caseload sizes are manageable and pay is equitable for the skill set and workload the position requires. Ensure case managers know they are NOT expected to (1) respond to work communication outside of scheduled hours, (2) take on too much without asking for help, (3) show up when they’re not feeling well, mentally or physically, and (4) accept poor treatment from clients. Model this as a supervisor. Encourage people to take their PTO, and help them find solutions if they feel there’s too much to do to take time off. Promote connectedness and a culture of asking for help. Encouraging self-care is good, but without systems that support their ability to do said self-care, it’s ineffective.

Implement a “caring culture” by encouraging staff to check in with each other and during one-on-one supervision with case workers when they are going not their usual self or signed of going through tough times (I.e. stresses, overwhelmed, irritability, etc.).

Balancing workload and maintaining quality care can be challenging, what has helped me with over 10 years experience has been Electronic Health Records (EHRs).I understand not every company may be privy to this type of Use EHRs to streamline patient information management. These systems can provide quick access to patient histories, treatment plans, and documentation, reducing time spent on administrative tasks. Something that has helped me in a way again is Pairing less experienced case managers with seasoned professionals for guidance and support.

As Nursing Home Unit RN Manager I gave choice of patient assignments to employee. Same assignment continued for days in row they worked. Continuity Increased bonding with Resident, replenishing of supplies, (i.e. underwear, clothing, towels, hygiene), recognition of ongoing concerns & goal setting of patient needs & wants.

You need to make an honest appraisal of how you are spending your time. If you work from home and manage your own schedule, you need to look at your work, family, and personal obligations and try to balance them all. Keep a time log for a while to assess your time demands. If you chose to spend daytime hours on personal or family tasks, you can't complain when you are spending time in the evening attending to job related matters. The key is knowing what is expected/needed from you and then arranging your schedule in a way that doesn't leave you frustrated. If it appears this is impossible, then decisions have to be made. Don't be afraid to talk to those that are feeling short changed and include them in your search for a solution.

An example of reducing your workload is finding resources in the community and partnering together to help facilitate care for your patients rapidly. Like a one stop shop for your patients without having to deal with multiple people to accommodate your patients.

Make a daily task list and prioritize them on your daily/weekly/monthly calendar. Having handled large case loads individually, I found that an effective case manager has little time to not continually complete tasks (small or large) toward the end goals of their client. Just my two cents…

I think case managers needs to be given all support from their supervisors understanding thier strength and weaknesses and reduce work pressure by providing timely implementation of activities.
