However, you can significantly expand your network with a thoughtful plan, which repeated, will advance your network beyond your current circle. In my opinion, networking outside of our circle can be first done by being aware of like-minded people we meet. Maintaining a good rapport with those people who will bring values for us will be good for developing our circle. Select those that are 3 to 8 years above your current level. Throughout your research, make sure to store the information. A spreadsheet is free and works perfectly.

Moreover, it enables you to send InMail messages, facilitating introductions. However, remember that behind every profile is a human being. If you are going to reach out to someone asking for time to talk, be very specific about the questions you have, why you are reaching out to them (what about their experience makes them the right person to talk to?), the time you are asking (hint, it's much easier to say yes to 15 minutes rather than an hour.)

In the past couple of years, I have invested in myself and growing my network by joining memberships. I have chosen communities where individuals with backgrounds or goals I relate to are coming together. The programming within these memberships has made it easy for me to identify people, and then follow up for more relationship-building.
