Experience is more important than knowledge. Trail and error helps you fine tune processes. Keeping an open mind and observing the longtime practitioners goes a long way. What would set you apart is your open mind, curiosity and an intuition that helps you develop understanding and would go a long way in successful implementation of SDLC.

SDLC is a structure or process rather than a framework. If you developed an app or a static website, chances are you went through few phases of SDLC. SDLC methodologies on the other hand offers frameworks that will help you to put the process in practice based on the project size, complexity etc.

In my experience, I've found that SDLC acts like a bridge between business and technology. It helps manage scope, resources, timeframes and, of course, quality. Embracing the SDLC can empower software professionals to navigate complexities, enhance collaboration, and foster innovation in their work, ultimately leading to improved outcomes in terms of efficiency, productivity, and the ability to deliver solutions that truly address the goals of all involved parties.

Selecting the right Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model for a project is crucial for its success. The choice of SDLC model depends on various factors, including project requirements, team expertise, timeline, budget, and the nature of the project. For example, If the team is pretty sure requirements won't change during the project i.e compliance projects we can just go with the Classic "Water Fall" model. If the team is launching a new product and would like to iterate throughout the project and change requirements based on customer feedback after every iteration then a more "Agile" model should be picked.

I would say that the best model is the one that is aligned with the overall team's self-human models; that includes the people on the IT (Information Technology) as well as the people on the Business side. That's why it is super important for everyone on the goal or project to develop her or his self-human model. Then, it is obvious whereby extra training may be needed for some people.

At the end of the day the character, skills and measurable successful collaboration of your resources deliver results- not the blueprint of a SDLC model and fancy words that will frustrate your team. Keep that for the C Suite. One resource can deliver on a 'project' or 12. My hindsight comes from decades supporting SDLC at a Corporate level for Fortune 500 companies with full stack IT departments. If you are a small organization without that IT presence internally, but have a need to incorporate technology, I strongly recommend to have resources that know your product best, support a vendor managed SDLC approach. Let the experts handle SDLC and result delivery. They will guide the process.

Yes, to become an expert in the Software Development Life Cycle, it is necessary to acquire a broad set of skills and knowledge that encompass the technical, business, and communication aspect of software development. In my experience, the best training is learning by doing. At the very beginning of the project, try to understand the whole process and get to know key stakeholders ASAP. Active communication is important and the key during the whole process. Of course, solid theoretical knowledge is also important, which can always be obtained from books or the Internet source. Yes, you can get good training from reading books, getting certified, completing degrees, and the like. But you can also get good training by recalling courses you took from grade schools through colleges. For example, remember the proving of the algebraic formula. As you can see below, the proof is research based upon facts. If 4x = 2x + 6. Prove that x = 3. 4x -2x = 6 (subtraction rule of equality 2x = 6 (results) x = 3 (division rule of equality)

I normally practice and improve my SDLC by practicing using application systems with which I am familiar. Then I look at my Self-Human Model to make sure that I covered everything. Note that per some of my posts in my Profile, I use the General Ledger and its feeder applications, such as the Payroll, Account Receivables, Fixed Assets, and the like. Then, I go through the Self-Human Model items, such as the big picture, planning, prioritizing, research, testing, statistics, graphs, communications, and the like.
