Starting with a small firm or companies working in PE domain will be a good start for a fresher. PE is a vast field which has so many different domains like Performance Reporting, Benchmarking, Investor Reporting, Fund Accounting and so on. Gaining experience is crucial to understand the basics of PE and to gather more and more insights about this domain. Develop analytical skills which are essential for growth, networking with PE professionals, understand the future aspects of PE firms and work towards it.

I would also say it would be a good idea to also research the firm’s competitors. You bring something unique that catches the interviewer’s eye, it’ll set you apart from other candidates.
