How can you gain experience in Communication without an internship?

One of the best ways is to be part of LinkedIn where you can improve your Communication on a professional level even when you haven't had an internship role while you are still in University. Ensure that you type all sentences in full, so that you can train yourself on the importance of communicating with anyone from any organization ??.

There is many forms of communication: 1. Verbal/ Non-Verbal This can be a basic skill such as customer service at a retail store or hotel. There is communities where you can exercise your public speaking to convey excellent body language E.g. Debate society 2. Written communication This can be displayed in many forms E.g. Blogging and Copywriting Create an online community where you share your opinion or specific career insights. 3. Visual This can come in many forms but the most popular would be PowerPoint presentations, graphs and charts. E.g. Get an Microsoft certification or charitable volunteering group work.

1. Unleash Creativity: Explore & Express in painting, poetry, music, or dance. 2. Embrace Gratitude: Foster an atmosphere by acknowledging & appreciating the things you are grateful for in your life. This is very important. 3. Themed Club Nights for Journaling: Dive deep, share personal insights through club nights dedicated to journaling & introspection. 4. Mock Interviews, Debate & Storytelling: Practice with friends that simulate real-world scenarios, & share stories to foster a sense of connection through the art of storytelling. Engage with content. Share insights daily. get involved on topics that you are passinonate about. These are daily pockets of time where you can showcase your style, knowledge and flair.

As someone who not too long ago had zero internships. One of the first things I did was build up my LinkedIn profile. I identified the skills or fields I wanted to eventually join, and found communities based off that. My first few LinkedIn groups were campus recruitment circles for RBC and Scotiabank. Those groups helped me connect with like-minded people and pointed me in the right direction.

I was honored to be invited to be the guest on two podcasts. Podcasts teach you how to prepare for an interview and how to think critically on your feet. You can prepare in advance for questions you know will be asked; but often times the conversation shifts, and you have to be prepared to communicate "from the hip" and do so confidently. You can also showcase your personality on a podcast. Just be yourself and have fun! It's a super way to stretch yourself out of your comfort zone - especially if you do not receive any questions in advance!

We're living in a point in time where we have ALL the technology we need to share our ideas and invite alternative opinions for discussion. Podcasting and blogging is a great way to do so! Just get started and don't overthink it. If you can speak about a topic for more than 10 minutes, it can be a podcast! Podcast guesting or having guests on my podcasts have also grew my critical thinking and communication skills.

"To showcase your personality". Rebecca, you took the words out of my mouth. There are plenty of thought leaders and usually they overshadow your skills in mainstream media. In a podcast, with its nature of being predictable & unpredictable. There's no hierarchy. If you don't share several common things you can reject it without fear of being shamed but let's respect the host and teams decision/direction as well.

Writing has been a skill treasured for centuries and that is why it is said writing is an art depending upon the type of writing and storytelling about it through audio channels such as podcasts could really showcase your potential and knowledge to a wider audience which can ultimately create your brand and personality. I believe that I could not have learned the importance of communication without getting married. Once I was married, I realized the importance of communication between my wife and my parents. I learned the importance of communicating what you mean, and also communicating what you communicate but don't mean. ;)

Volunteering is a great opportunity to make a positive impact on a cause you are passionate about but it also allows you to acquire valuable skills for your personal development. Most NGOs, political parties or other organisations that rely on unpaid labour are heavily understaffed. Consequently you will be able to take on lots of responsibilities and contribute impactful work from the get-go. In my case, I joined a newly founded political movement in 2018. Within just 3 months I found myself publishing press releases and engaging with journalists on behalf of the national chapter. While previous experiences in communication are beneficial, the motivation to experiment, explore and learn is far more important.

To volunteer for a cause, start by identifying organizations aligned with your interests. Reach out to them expressing your eagerness to contribute and inquire about volunteer opportunities. Attend events or join online platforms to network with like-minded individuals. Be proactive, showcasing your skills and dedication during your volunteer work, and leverage the experience to refine your communication skills.

Volunteering for a cause can be a life-changing and transformative experience for anyone. For example, if you volunteer at a blood bank to organize a blood donation campaign, you can see firsthand how staff communicate and manage cases between themselves, doctors, and patients. Similarly, if you volunteer for an education NGO, you can learn about the communication channels between businesses that donate and those that make donations materialize. Overall volunteering could help you in understanding different perspectives and communication styles.

I wasn't aware of it at the time, but the first thing I ever did that improved my communication skills was volunteering. At 15, I was a summer camp volunteer and eventual assistant counselor at my neighborhood's school. And what that experience taught me was the ability to have patience, problem solve, and to deal with a wide range of personality types. Volunteering is also a nice cherry in top to your LinkedIn/resume so I would recommend anyone to volunteer for at least one cause.

Many organizations have yet to realize the full potential of online learning and courses for their employees and businesses. Increased knowledge and awareness of business processes, tools, and best practices can lead to improved productivity and reduced costs. I found that there is a difference between thinking you know something and actually knowing it through formal education. When I enrolled in online courses, I realized that I had gaps in my knowledge of business communications, styles, and approaches.

Great platform suggestions but I would recommend LinkedIn Learning to anyone. When I was in school, I didn't have much time outside my classes to commit to additional ones online. However, I still wanted to gain those communication skills. I found LinkedIn Learning to be a great alternative to the other platforms. ?? It was low commitment because I could choose and complete the online courses on my own time. ?? On top of that, they you easily add a certificate of completion to your profile to show off to potential employers. ?? Lastly, it's free! If you're a university student, you can sign in using your school credentials and gain access to tons of learning at no cost.

I had a wonderful mentor, Lauren Bradley with The Officials, who helped me gain confidence in myself in a new role and really helped me empower myself. I have been able to develop and shape my role outside of my "job description". She was very encouraging as I began "thinking outside of the box" as to how I could revamp my role. She helped with ideas and provided wonderful feedback. She is always so positive and such an amazing cheerleader! A mentor is an incredible way to gain experience in communication, collaboration and accepting feedback. I highly recommend!

A major milestone for me was finding a mentor. In my 3rd year of Uni, I was accepted into a mentorship program and got paired with someone who was at the time, the vice-president of BMO Capital Markets. And when it came to career tips/advice, the few calls I had with him were more helpful than any other course or curriculum I had taken to date. Mentors are underrated, finding the right ones will accelerate your growth.

A mentor-mentee relationship offers invaluable opportunities to enhance communication skills. The benefits go beyond learning techniques from a more experienced mentor. When you share your accumulated knowledge and experiences in your field with a mentee, you also refine your own communication abilities. Effective transmission of ideas, ensuring the mentee's understanding, and receiving feedback all contribute to growth in this area. Mentoring allows both parties to sharpen their capacity to convey information effectively.

After a decade of experience in the staffing industry, I realized that there were many things I could have done differently to achieve more milestones. I realized that speaking to someone from the industry earlier would have helped me grow further and know what to expect and how to handle it when starting and scaling my career.

Since childhood my father focused on communication building. One of the foremost thing I learnt when building communication was to stand in front of mirror and speak. My father used to make me stand in front of mirror and make me read newspaper, books. Second thing which helped me was listening my own voice in loop. During Lockdown, I used to record any philosophical knowledge and used to listen myself. It helped me to understand my speech, word clarity, way of speaking. And I joined many Facebook communities related to self-development, business. Speaking with different cultural background of people to build my communication. And at the end, it was journalling which boosted everything. Writing every single day.

If I had to start over, I would begin by simply being more proactive in communities. ?? LinkedIn - I would search for groups that targeted my goals. Ex. company campus groups, communication learning groups ?? Campus - I would also aim to be more involved on campus. Be on the lookout for club events, and explore chances to be apart of extracurriculars. Communication skills are like any other skill. If you want to improve them, start with baby steps, that's what worked for me.
