Make yourself visible : Social netorks such as LinkedIn will allow you to market yourself and spread the word about your specialties. 3. Certification : It will give you the codes, good practices and tools to succeed in this challenging line of work (and may reassure your future clients about your engagement). 4. Consulting firms specialized in change management and specialized head hunters will help you find your assignements (50% of my leads). Good luck!

In my experience, there are two main perspectives to be considered: 1) Outside-in: What kind of problems are you going to help solve? What are the main “causes” you stand for? (As an example: choosing one or two of the 17 SDG can be interesting drivers to focus your efforts on and help identify your potential customers). Also in the outside-in approach: what are the market segments where you have more experience? 2) inside-out: No one is good at everything. What are your main competences / expertises? To define your niche, you need to think about what kind of change management services you can offer, and who your ideal clients are. Some questions to guide you are: 1. What are your strengths and skills as a change management consultant? What are you passionate about? What are you good at? 2. What are the current trends and challenges in the change management field? What are the emerging opportunities and needs? 3. What are the specific industries, sectors, or types of organizations that you want to work with? What are their characteristics, goals, and pain points? 4. What are the problems that you can solve for your clients? What are the benefits that you can bring to them? How can you measure and demonstrate your impact?

Making yourself visible is a great place to begin. Attend Industry meetings. Let your LI network know you are open for work, giving a flavor for the types of projects you have worked on, the industries you have worked in, and the results achieved. Make sure to get positive references who can speak to your strengths, as well as their impressions of you. Originally my focus was on retail & brand, now after 6 years I've worked in Supply Chain, Warehousing & Logistics, Commercial, Quality & Finance. I've taken lower day rates in order to build my experience in other sectors. This has broadened the business areas I can work in and I've enjoyed building a portfilio that has gven me opportunities that I'd never have initially considered. I think very hard before I say no to an opportunity as you never know where the next road may lead me. My advice, be brave say yes and embrace your own journey.

Moving from a permanent role to a contractor can be daunting, as you lose all the security you've had throgh your whole career. The safety net you always had no longer exists. It can be scary at times as you don't know where the next contract is coming from, however this is balanced out by the complete autonomy I have and the experiences I can have working in different companies & with different people. I'll take alot to get me back into a permanent role as a love the flexibility contracting affords. Be brave, be bold and project yourself as an expert in your field would be my advice.
