I found my ultimate business and life mentors at a business conference. They didn't immediately accept me as a mentee because I had to prove I was worth their time. I am using generative AI as my mentor as badic knowledge, roadmap, business challenges have been found previously when I was an employee in some multinational compsnies with various roles such as sales, marketing, business development, engineer even as a manager. The platform's comprehensive profiles and targeted search capabilities have streamlined my efforts, making it a go-to resource for navigating the dynamic landscape of professional connections and opportunities.

Be open, honest and have clear intent. I believe if you trust someone and approach them with an intention to seek their expertise, guidance or mentorship. Unless limited by constraints they will surely respond and come forward to hear more. Also if they are unable to support you they will still decline it respectfully. Because the true mark of an amazing coach or mentor is they are living values which inspire people. So reach out! Don’t hesitate because there is nothing to lose.

I've attracted my mentors when leveraging associations or coaching communities, but I also wasn't afraid to tell my mentor that they possessed qualities that I was looking to develop and asked them to mentor me. But direct message (or even introduction) over LinkedIn messenger I have found a lot of success in. Again, a lot of folks are flattered at requests for earnest feedback, and see that as a net-positive, one-on-one networking event for them in its own right.

For myself at least, I think the passion that I have for my projects is tough for me to keep bottled up. I've experienced success at getting the mentors I need in my life I think because my passion can be infectious. But it is critical to ensure that, no matter how passionate you are about your thing, that you leave space for them to actually give the input that your seeking. If you can aim to make even the most involved set-up scenario or lead up to a question take absolutely no more than 3-5 minutes, then that leaves more openings to get what you at least allegedly booked this appointment for in the first place: building a relationship with them, and getting their honest input, having them answer your toughest questions.

Every relationship is going to have its ups and downs, and big cars. Majority of these relationships may be new relationships, clear and open communication as well as expectations are going to be key to managing the relationship as well as emotions. Come up with a series of accountability or check-in or task based requirements that you guys agree upon that work for both of you that allows you to stay on track and set a system for follow up in evaluation. Maybe it’s every 30 days or 90 days. Maybe it’s weekly depending on the task. But this way you guys can constantly evaluate progress as well as the effectiveness of the mentorship.

Absolutely critical to proactively book follow-up meetings - even if it's 3-6 months out - for almost any meeting you might have, before that given meeting ends. If the game in business is to build successful relationships, how many lasting, mutually valuable relationships were built during a single one-off meeting for 30 or 60 minutes? Follow-ups also provide a framework to actually accomplish whatever items were discussed in the previous meetings, and forces accountability on both parts. Your mentor won't want to show up without having made the intros they offered to make for you (for example). And similarly, you'll want to have tested or otherwise implemented whatever advice they gave you.
