First of all you have to define your baselines. Also, you need to be sure new design is aligned with business strategies. Consider benefits of the new design, long term impact, maintenance costs, scalability, and time taken to dynamically react to faults with zero or minimum downtime. Security risks, and cost to mitigate them also need to be take in account.

Evaluating network design success involves key factors like performance metrics (speed, latency, uptime), scalability, flexibility, security, and compliance with standards. Cost-effectiveness, both initial and long-term, is crucial.

Considero en un mundo Cloud es importantísimo (por no decir lo esencial) preparar toda nuestra infraestructura interna para operar con todos estos nuevos servicios en la nube. Si el lifecycle de tus elementos de Networking ves llegar... a Cisco Meraki tienes que llamar! Da igual el sector al que pertenezcas. When assessing a new network design trend check out the hardware that you have at the moment. Some of it might not be compatible with it. Which your going to have to do some hardware/software upgrade. Don't go cheap or too expensive do as it relates to your company's goals.

Connectivity requires a medium, and a medium requires infrastructure (wired, wireless, fiber or depending on the medium that is more important to the business). It involves evaluating in detail the technical requirements, constraints, and capabilities of the proposed solution/process to determine whether it is feasible to develop, implement, and maintain it within the given constraints and available resources.

Good availability and good response time is your job. The application layer is not your domain. Corporate politics exist and vary in many ways. Cover your butt.

Feedback Loops: Gather user input and assess satisfaction through surveys or direct feedback. Performance Metrics: Measure improved speed, reliability, and ease of access. Adoption Rates: Monitor how quickly and extensively users embrace new functionalities or features.

In my experience, the user experience is very centered on the applications, software and information that is being transferred in the network. To make room for a user to not complain is a particular focus. The way the network is used will ultimately determine how this can happen. If there are too many users or wasted bandwidth, those are indicators that will have to involve changes to make sure the network is available and complies with expectations.

For user satisfaction here's something's to do; * Speak end-users and upper Mgmt. on what their thoughts are before starting to implement a new design. * Whether doing by survey, conference call, group gathering, etc. You need all the input first before you move forward. * You want to do it right the first time. This way they'll be minimal down time.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged: an unhappy customer is more likely to tell others about their negative experience than a happy customer is to share a positive one.

Cost Analysis: * See whether if your current computer infrastructure is compatible or not with the upgrade that your looking to do. * What are the R.O.I on the upgrade and showing it the upper management to get your point across. * If your current equipment isn't compatible, then you need all new hardware. See if you can return or sell the old hardware to someone.

You may refer to it as bang-to-hype or ROI, but basically if you’re spending money on infrastructure simply to be bleeding edge and not enjoying the benefits than you are not wisely investing in your infrastructure. Understanding the business benefit and making improvements that provide efficiency and productivity is the goal.

A significant cost often forgotten is the lack of vendor support for end of life hardware. We typically think of support as the ability to receive technical assistance from the vendor over issues of configuration or troubleshooting, and that is still true, but today there are serious security implications for leaving old hardware in production. End of life network infrastructure no longer receives security patches from the vendor, leaving open the possibility that your network infrastructure can be leveraged by an attacker to gain broad access across your entire organization. Keeping old network infrastructure places an organization at significant risk of future costs and business disruption.

Cost benefit analysis should include tools like simulators which will make the design considerations faster. Quality needs a closer look in all situations.

Cost-benefit analysis is the process of analyzing business decisions. When a decision is under consideration, the cost of an option is subtracted from the benefit of it. By performing a cost-benefit analysis, management can tell whether or not an investment is worth it for the business.

Network simulators are very helpful in validating network design. It is helpful while iterating through incremental network designs.

A good network design also has scalability and high availability. Redundancy can be key especially when you have to consider maintenance or hardware failures.

If you're going to move forward with either replacing your current hardware or doing a minor hardware/software upgrade. Make sure that you can do it in a testing environment. Whether it's physically or virtually you want to do it before anytime of implementation.

While many teams follow the agile process for testing, it is best to follow a slightly different process for benchmark testing. The following are the standard testing phases for benchmark testing

Simulating real scenarios helps compare performance metrics. for instance, testing virtualization or containerization against traditional setups reveals impacts on performance and resource use.

The main idea behind continuous improvement is that no process is perfect and there is always room for improvement. The very first thing to do here is to establish your baseline and your starting point. Then plan your improvements, including setting goals. However, take note to put in place the actions required for improvement. Then, Measure your success relative to your baseline. As you progress along, adjust or tweak your changes. If the change was successful, implement it on a wider scale and continuously assess your results. You need to monitor and review the network design trend regularly and identify the areas that need improvement or adjustment. If the change did not work, begin the cycle again.

A key part of continuous improvement is focusing on a data-driven approach. Regularly compare your network with the standards and best practices. This can be done by using monitoring tools and also by joining groups and conferences where you can share experiences and learn from what others in similar positions are doing. By using analytics and data to measure how your network is performing, you can make well-informed choices that help improve and adapt your network.

It's always important to keep in mind that technologies changes faster than in the past. So continuos improvements are need for increase security, have the best performance of the network infrastructure and also keeping the business running without issues.

I always try to utilize brands that have compatibility between the last revision and the next. This allows improvement in areas of the infrastructure that add value while retaining the current infrastructure that still provides adequate functionality. It also improves stability and supportability long term.

Prioritize securing your network while keeping it seamlessly integrated for staff. Ensure easy access and sufficient storage for efficient, uninterrupted work, minimizing the need for frequent IT assistance.

Security then invisibility. First protect your network then ensure it's invisible to the staff. Staff should be able to use the network without having to jump through hoops to use it. To be effective users should be able to do their work without issues. There should be enough storage space for most. A user shouldn't need to beg IT for each task they need to do.

The main factors to be considered are: The purpose of the network - exchange of information and data between computers, applications and database hosting, voice and messaging services. The size of the network - number of users, area of coverage, location of the users, hardware and of course security.

Unless you work for a corporation with deep pockets, it is unlikely you will have an expert for new tech on the payroll. Work closely with h/w & s/w companies for "best fit" scenarios that address your pain points and other goals prior to setting up your Proof Of Concept system.

In my experience, the devil is in the details. Possibly already in the test/evaluation phase, the following should be considered 1. Is the architecture easy to monitor and/or to interface with the existing monitoring and alarming systems? 2. Logging Is it easy to filter out unusual events (suspicious scans on the external perimeter) from day to day activities (backups, normal network traffic) ? 3. ACL and roles Is it easy to have administrative access for sysadmin, and for example read only access for support colleagues?
