So, first of all, to explain what a postmortem is: It's a development evaluation, usually done after the end of a project, to determine what went right and what wrong in the process. It's the way for teams and studios to utilise their own hands-own experience and convert it to valuable knowledge. Postmortems are done for both successful and unsuccessful projects.

You can find many templates online or create your own based on your preferences and needs. Templates are a good start, however it's important to remember that every team and every project are different and changing dynamically through process. So, when you are done with the standard evaluation, make sure there are no important aspects, events etc that have been left out of the list.

Start by seeking feedback from your team. Although a postmortem can be received as a management-related mater, your team might have things in mind that effected their work (in a positive or negative way) that they were not being shared with the management or the rest of the team for various reasons. Team's feedback can provide great clarity while speeding-up the process.
