ROI is everything when we talk about new projects. Prepare a strong and strategic approach to present, not just the final outcome, but the benefits and improvements your idea will generate along the way.

There isn't one correct response. It depends on the culture, your status as a contributor, and how this idea fits into the bigger vision, purpose, values, goals, and targets. I would ensure that I have a solid business case. Why, who, how, when, why again. Then I'd run the idea past the leaders who would be impacted, as a hypothetical situation, selling the benefits and asking for what I'm missing (how it will impact them). With a few leaders / dept heads onboard, I'd pitch the idea as as a pilot project while not only outlining the benefits and upsides but the people I've recruited who have expressed their opinion and are basically onboard. If I don't have enough clout in my organization, I ask them to run it up the ladder as our idea

To have different points of view will assure you are covering more ground. Will also allow you to make sure that negative impact, if any, is already detected and could be taken care off as soon as it arise when implementing the idea. The more people are involve, and make them part of it, the more supportive environment you will have.

Firstly is your organisation one that promotes ideas and input from the staff? Are you frontline staff or management? You will handle this differently for different organisations. An organisation that is open to new ideas is obviously easier to get your idea across. If you work for an organisation that is known for not listening to frontline staff then bring up a taster of your idea and see how it is received. Create a full business plan or pitch deck so that your idea is very clear and concise so that you can answer questions and have support information. Only give your full pitch deck if you have support for it. If it is a truly great idea and you don't get support for it consider being your own entrepreneur.
