How can you ensure you're providing value to your clients as a business coach?

Identifying a set of agreed ROI measures upfront and reviewing these regularly is critical. However meeting these ROI metrics is more than what you as a coach provide. It is just as important to the success of an engagement that the coachee must be coachable. When you have clear direction, a coach with a broad set of tools that can be used judiciously, and a coachee who is open to new experiences or ways of doing things, that is when we can have transformation. And it is in transformation where value really lies. If any one of these three factors is absent then it is unlikely that the that the coach is able to deliver true value to the coachee.

Establish a continual and consistent check in process. How are you and the client going to measure and monitor progress? This depends on the individual client and outcomes desired. Based on the particular scenario, establish how progress will be monitored. I also encourage the client to take ownership of their own measuring and monitoring. There is sometimes a tendency to want to do the work for the client thinking we may be speeding up the process. In some cases this may be the case, though often it is better to have them do some of the more challenging work so that they are self sufficient when you are no longer around. Give a man a fish, he'll be fed for the day, teach him to fish and he'll have food the rest of his life.

As a Business Coach, I follow a simple process that involves a few key practices. First, active listening helps me understand their challenges deeply. Then, I tailor strategies to their unique needs rather than offering generic solutions. It's crucial to establish clear objectives together and regularly assess progress. Listening actively and more importantly empathy are the most important tools, much more than a software or any framework. That is most important for a coach. Understanding the unspoken needs of your client is vital to your success as a coach. Make keen observations, draw insights and plan your strategy.

Active listening and the art of asking powerful questions are foundational skills for any effective business coach. Instead of offering immediate advice or making assumptions, a skilled coach emphasizes understanding the client's unique perspective, needs, and objectives. By fostering a non-judgmental and open environment, the coach guides the client through self-reflection, aiding them in identifying strengths, weaknesses, and innovative solutions. This approach encourages the client to take ownership of their challenges, empowering them to formulate their own answers and actionable strategies.

Presence & Listening are crucial for asking powerful questions. Simplification can amplify the effect of powerful questions; use simple language to ask your questions.

We are given two ears and one mouth for a reason. Use them that way. Coaching should involve listening at least 2/3 of the time. Don't get hung up on the exact amount, but use it as a guide. When you are talking, explore what your client has told you at a deeper level. Try to get clarity on why, when, and how. You aren't there to provide answers, but to help them to discover the answers themselves.

Un buen coach es capaz de ver el potencial del participante, incluso antes de que él o ella lo vean. En mi experiencia, ha sido muy útil ayudarle a la persona a enfocarse en sus fortalezas en vez de centrarse en sus debilidades. Cuando se logra hacer de manera correcta, el proceso de transformación del participante es increíble.

Hice una encuesta con algunos de mis participantes actuales y pasados para saber si alguna sesión había tenido mayor relevancia que las demás. La respuesta fue sorprendente. La sesión para describir CUáLES SON MIS VALORES es la que más les gusta. Es increíble lo que crece y avanza una persona una vez que descubre cuáles son SUS propios valores. No los de la sociedad, no los que les dicen que deben tener, sino los de ellos. Los de esa persona en particular. Cuando los descubren y los ven en blanco y negro, es muy fácil entender por qué actúan como actúan y por qué sus decisiones son las que son.

I do not belive in reaching our ?full potential?. I belive in learning and growing until the day we die. If anybody feels that they have reached their ?full potential?, then what else is there to do/become/achieve? Always keep learning and growing while serving others as we grow, and they will grow with us. Aiming to achieve a state is like running after our own tail (if we had one ??). Be happy with what is, in this moment, while encouraging yourselves and your clients to reach the next level. Nothing is good or bad unless we make it good or bad, but solving challenges and feeling like we get ahead in life is a great feeling! The goal should be to serve from our heart, and everything else will fall into place.

What do they believe is impossible for them? Maybe it's reducing costs by X %, or doubling income in a year, or maybe just losing 20 lbs. Show them a way that it could be true. It might not be the exact path, but it does plant a seed that it might be possible. Continue to water it over time and see if it grows.

Sacar de la zona de confort implica un balance entre el ser y el hacer y el coach de negocios la responsabilidad de mantener este balance es muy importante. Es muy fácil pedirle a otro que haga más, que se atreva, que enfrente a sus miedos, pero también es importante entender qué lo ha llevado a estar donde está y amorosamente lograr que se vea así mismo en otro lugar, que pueda proyectarse desde su autenticidad, logrando más de lo que hasta ese momento.

Una cosa que a mí me ha servido es entender que el participante no está por encima de mi no yo estoy por encima de él/ella. Ambos estamos al mismo nivel y eso nos permite hablar con franqueza y naturalidad. Podemos decirnos las cosas como son. Podemos enfrentar los retos juntos. Y lo mejor de todo, podemos hacer las preguntas que nadie más se atreve a hacer.

Often times, what the client is looking to address initially, will change over time. As you work with a client, be understanding that other needs, sometimes more prominent and important needs will be uncovered. It is highly valuable to you and the client to be willing to reassess and adjust as the needs arise. I will say this prior to starting to work with a client and set the expectation that as we move along, we may need to focus in different directions. I also will communicate this as it comes up and ensure we are aligned on the adjustment so we are on the same page moving forward together.

Ensure value as a business coach by consistently evaluating your effectiveness. Ask for feedback from clients to understand their perspectives. Review coaching sessions and notes for insights and improvement areas. Measure outcomes and impact by assessing clients' progress toward their goals. This proactive evaluation process ensures continuous refinement, enhancing your ability to provide meaningful and impactful coaching, tailored to the evolving needs of your clients.

I like to find the one thing that matters most to the client and base everything around that. It's the 'cherry tree' approach.. Brian Tracy said that people don't buy a house. They fall in love with a cherry tree in the garden and buy that with a house attached. Discover their cherry tree and build your sale, your relationship and your KPIs around that. What matters, matters.

Qualify your clients before working with them. Not every coach is right for every client, and if you’re not confident you can get a ROI, they should be sign posted to a different service.
