What saves us is starting with Goal and building hypotheses that are preventing us from achieving the goal. Next step is digging int relevant data. For example, when I was working on improving claim ratio metric (amount spent on claims/ insurance premium). Hypothesis built was: patient do not go to hospital that patient do not realize that going to Hospital A can save them money vs going to Hospital B. With goal set, hypothesis built, it is time to do data collection and digging.
