There are many different SDLs available, but they all share the same goal of helping you to develop secure software. Then, perform threat modeling to identify the potential threats to your users' data and privacy. This will help you to prioritize your security efforts required. A final thought is to make sure that the implemented security controls and measures are easy to understand and use. Security should not be a burden for your users.

We can't improve what we don't measure. And we really don't know if everything's good unless a user feedback mechanism is in place and the results speak for themselves. Security metrics should be part of the process from the beginning and not an after thought or for compliance sake only. And from the info we gather, we improve on.
