How can you ensure remote teams meet Data Governance deadlines?

Regular check ins are critical for any team, whether they are co-located or a distributed team. Daily standup meetings offer a forum to understand progress and identify obstacles early so they can be addressed to ensure meeting deadlines.

Post covid remote teams have become the norm. Regular cadence and reports will help determine the extent of compliance. Depending on the team's capability the periodicity of cadence at various levels should be adopted Not necessary that uniformly it has to be daily or weekly.

Communicating deadlines to data stewards for data governance work can be done in multiple ways: 1. An Initial Call and or Meeting 2. Bi-Weekly Email or Group Message 3. Provide a monthly or yearly chart with deadline dates 4. In 1:1 conversations.

Adopting an Agile way of working (Wow) will help remote teams meet Data Governance deadlines and objectives. Agile Wow encourages frequent communications/collaboration and shortens feedback loop between team members. Agile Wow does not translate into daily huddle or sprint. It is more about building agility into your process and check-in with each other more frequently however that looks like for your team. This will help ensure that you are all aligned on your objective and deadline and rally team member behind a common goal.

In my perspective and experience these are some of the key factors to consider: 1. Clear communication channels need to be established - making sure the requirements are absolutely spot on and ensuring it meets the data quality that we want to achieve 2. Detailed guidelines- making sure the guidelines are detailed and understood by the respective working groups 3. Project management tools are a key success factor as they ensure that timelines are being tracked and the objectives are met 4. Regular check-ins and updates are important to make sure everyone is on the same page with respect to the project status 5. Additionally provide support and resources to overcome any potential obstacles any team members might face

Armed with data catalogs, ensuring everyone easily discovers and understands the data at their fingertips. Data quality tools act as guardians, ensuring only the cleanest data makes the cut. Meanwhile, data lineage tools provide a roadmap, clarifying the journey from source to destination. Thanks to data integration tools, the team orchestrates a seamless dance of information, mapping, cleansing, and delivering data.This virtual symphony not only saves time but also slashes errors, ensuring the team's endeavors are as accurate as a precision watch. Documentation becomes their trusted companion, a beacon illuminating standardized processes, making it a breeze for any team member to jump in.

Having the right metrics in place is the key. I would recommend using an iterative approach to create and improve on the metrics that you are using to track the performance of your team. Do a retrospective on what works and what doesn't. Are the KPIs driving the right behaviors and helping the team achieve the target result? If not, be ready to tweak that, and reassess.

In the Data Governance, the process of learning never stops. I learn a lot in my day to day project work. To grow other Data Governance colleagues like me, I do effective collaboration and knowledge sharing on various DG concepts like Data Discovery, Data Catalog, Data Security, Data Classification, Data Quality, Data Remediation. We prepare alot of artifacts of Policy, Procedure, Processes, Step by Step Guide and share it with other DG Colleagues which helps them in their data to day project work
