How can you ensure quality work from remote UED teams?

It is important to highlight that it is essential to establish clear and frequent communication channels to keep everyone aligned and engaged. This can include regular video meetings, real-time chat, and project management platforms. Investing in appropriate collaborative tools is crucial to facilitating team collaboration and productivity. From design tools to file-sharing platforms, it's important to choose solutions that meet the team's specific needs and promote efficient collaboration, even at a distance.Furthermore, promoting a culture of trust is essential for the success of remote teams. This involves clearly delegating responsibilities, encouraging autonomy.

I have had remote roles for the past year, and we have Google Meet stand-up calls every morning plus a weekly check-in call for project progress. To save time, my team used Figma prototypes with notes so stakeholders could click through the designs first and familiarize themselves, so during the meeting, more time could be focused on the problems that need to be solved. Do not do daily meetings (exclude the 10-minute stand-ups) for projects. I was on a project where the stakeholders demanded daily meetings throughout the whole process, and the meetings would take 2 to 3 hours. Combined with other existing stand-up meetings, weekly, and bi-weekly meetings, I had only about 1 to 2 hours a day to design.

Design systems provide the building blocks and pillars of design in a scalable and flexible way. An effective design system will facilitate productivity increases and decrease the time and hassle throughout a project. It is the superpower of modern design. Taking this further it is vital to document how to use the design system and how not to use it. Additionally, a design system should be built to scale and be ready for flexible changes. In my experience, it is important to allow the design system the ability to grow with the project. As the system grows so too does the scalability and productivity of the project.
