Specifically in the Social Impact Space the innovation is not to be done with the end user in mind but it has to be done with the end user included in the process. How you enable that is by having product leaders interact with the community at a deeper level, understand how they do what they do to make sure its truly built for the community.

Inclusivity has to be built into the culture of your activity or your organization. Inclusivity means: 1) Identifying all possible type of stakeholders/users for your product/service/idea 2) Detailing how each segment will use the product/service 3) Identifying the challenges in each usage 4) Finding out innovative ways to help each segment overcome the challenges.

A five-way strategy to ensure inclusive innovation design are - 1. Ensuring inclusive and democratic accessibility of innovation tools and resources 2. Leverage Employee Resource Group to ensure a safe, enabling space for open dialogue 3. Ensure co-design, cross-functional, and collaborative approach at the design stage 4. Use data and quantitative-qualitative analysis to ensure innovation is intersectionally inclusive 5. Make 'Inclusive Innovation' a key determination of Performance Metrics

Innovation requires a safe space for conflict. Someone needs to feel safe enough in the room to say "this isn't working for me." It is then up to leadership to empower the innovators to experiment without fear of retribution.

This is one of the most important aspects of social impact work. Do not conduct any initiative without engagement, representation, and buy-in from the community you are serving. Aim to build WITH and not for, so that the solutions designed can more likely be long-term and sustainable. Build in various mechanisms and check-points along the governance process of the initiative to align with these important stakeholders.

Inviting a diverse range of stakeholders to co-create solutions is something that I find very useful for inclusive innovation. I often use engaging workshops and accessible digital tools to facilitate open dialogue and active listening - key to integrating their unique perspectives into my processes. This approach not only enriches the innovation but also builds a sense of shared ownership and respect for diverse views. As development of the product or service continues, it is also key to keep the conversation ongoing and maintain inclusivity at every step. This ensures that the innovative product or solution is indeed fit-for-purpose, and will be used by the community and stakeholders effectively.

Em minha experiência, realizar eventos de inova??o aberta focado em melhoria contínua foi bastante funcional. Estes eventos podem ser em formato de workshops ou hackathons, com equipes diversificadas (membros com diferentes backgrounds, habilidades, gêneros, etnias, e experiências profissionais), focadas em solucionar problemas reais. O grande desafio deste processo é a manuten??o de uma cultura de mentalidade de crescimento, inova??o e foco em resultado, para que se alcance realmente a inova??o necessária.
