SSL certs with strong algorithms based on the company standard makes more secure in terms of security. HSM - Hardware secure module performs data encryption and decryption for digital signatures, strong authentication and cryptography functions. Assigning this device to storage/backup appliances which manages the backup will secure the data from middle man attacks.

There are several ways you can ensure data security when using virtualisation for backup and recovery. 1. Isolation of virtual Machines is one of the recommended way in virtualisation security. 2. Another way is, Regular patches and updates on the Hypervisor server. 3. The use of strong authentication and Access control. 4. Encryption of Data in Transit and Data at rest. I think can help organisations in protecting their data when using virtualisation for backup and recovery.
