I want to debunk a myth here. I don't think there will ever be such a thing as psychological safety in corporate environments due not being able to control the mannerisms of others. I think that is the wrong benchmark to set. Now that we are here, I say establish trust and intent. It's important to model openness and vulnerability but build a culture of feedback loops without weaponization of feedback that is given. When a colleague engages in feedback or vulnerability have your leadership encourage and provide space for their openness to continue to cultivate the change in others.

Yes, this is important but I would emphasize that the most important aspect of setting goals and expectations is outlining team member's role and responsibilities in addition to vast collaboration examples. I think when you get very prescriptive about the rest people will follow just the instruction because of the person it's coming from. Collaboration is the most important thing to emphasize here and sharing that it will look different for everyone so using broad examples will be the most helpful.

I concur that open ended questions are the way to go but they can be very tricky. Your team has to be in a place to handle vagueness and being seem which typically is easy if you find yourself dealing with a team of executives but if not, it becomes tricky and you would need to guide your audience and strategically structure the question in a way to ensure that it is not so broad that it feels like a trick question vs a question to spark thought. If you get stuck on how to frame the question, follow this simple methodology: “why”, “what if”, and “how."
