Negative feedback might cause negative responses especially if you are personally or emotionally invested in the idea. 1. Accept it as part of the process and do not shut down the negative internal responses 2. Find solutions to counter negative feedback (it might have been a blindspot). 3. If your idea cannot handle being bombarded by what if scenarios and challenges, then perhaps it wasn't as good an idea as you thought.

2 Analyze feedback objectively

The second step is to analyze the feedback objectively and decide what to do with it. Not all feedback is equally useful or relevant, so you need to filter out the noise and focus on the signal. A helpful tool to do this is the feedback matrix, which categorizes feedback into four quadrants based on its validity and value: praise, criticism, advice, and useless. Praise is positive and valid feedback that reinforces your strengths and motivates you. Criticism is negative and valid feedback that reveals your weaknesses and challenges you. Advice is positive and invalid feedback that suggests alternative solutions or approaches. Useless is negative and invalid feedback that has no constructive purpose or basis. You should embrace praise, address criticism, consider advice, and ignore useless feedback.

One thing I have found helpful is never to take negative feedback personally. This makes me open to objectively analyse the pros and the cons of the feedback. Negative feedback is someone's way of telling me that he/she does not like a decision or an action that I have taken. I will step back to objectively analyse that action/decision to find out if it can be done or communicated in a better way. Ultimately, the team has to work with it, so either fine-tune or get your team to buy in to that decision, or jettison it, if that will be the best option. Communication and team work is key.

3 Act on feedback strategically

The third step is to act on the feedback strategically and incorporate it into your CPS process. Depending on the type and timing of the feedback, you may need to adjust your goals, revise your ideas, or change your actions. For example, if you receive criticism on your problem definition, you may need to revisit your research and analysis and refine your problem statement. If you receive advice on your idea generation, you may need to explore more options and use different techniques. If you receive praise on your idea evaluation, you may need to validate your assumptions and test your prototypes. The key is to use feedback as a guide, not as a rule, and to align it with your own vision and criteria.

One of the basic strategies is to seek feedback when your project is 60% complete approximately. That time, we have clarity of our results. On receiving the feedback, we could make necessary amendments in time and align the outcome as per the client's or customer's requirements. It helps the client to understand the process and outcome more effectively.

The fourth step is to seek feedback proactively and regularly throughout the CPS process. Feedback is not only something that you receive, but also something that you ask for and give to others. By soliciting feedback from diverse sources and perspectives, you can gain more insights and perspectives on your problem and solutions. By providing feedback to others, you can build trust and rapport, share knowledge and experience, and foster a culture of learning and innovation. To seek feedback effectively, you should be specific about what you want to know, ask open-ended questions, and invite different opinions.

Feedback is vital in communication. Challenge hits negative feedback. Below steps are effective ways to approach it wisely. 1. Be calm & confident: successful people often come across negative feedback. This attitude is vital to start. 2. Accept & take responsibility: Circumstances Act as an excuse for receiving a negative feedback, Your actions should speak at this moment. It's wise to give excuses for achievements, not for failures. 3. Empathise: People misinterpret term (empathise), Attitude towards the person after receiving feedback matters rather than the word (Thankyou). 4. Adopt the feedback: You can accept all feedback but can adopt some of it. Now comes your role, as you know yourself well than feedback provider.
