When launching a BOGO campaign, it's key to identify the goal and address the underlying questions associated with that purpose. To enhance perceived value to the customer: Are your items overpriced? Clear out inventory: What happened to create such a surplus? Create a supplemental sales pipeline: Are these pipeline sales items not normally purchased with the transactional item? Once the reason is identified, market accordingly. Enhance value? Market to announce savings! Clear out inventory? Market to the mistake as a limited time deal! Supplemental sale? Expand upon features and benefits of the extra item to encourage repeat purchases. Track the results by monitoring the initial bump and inevitable dip, and look for the retained lift.

Absolutely, always measure whatever you have done so that you know whether it's effective or not. Make an apple to apple benchmarking so it make a fair comparison to judge one to another.

You can’t. Period. If the product is right there’s no reason for a BOGO or any sale. Quality and difference create the opportunity. Pricing will work itself out.

Product knowledge is an especially great tool to use in many aspects of retail but especially during promotion as well as being knowledgeable of the usual promotions that are offered for the products. Customers want to know why they should buy one tee shirt and get another one free, or buy a pair of jeans and get one free. Maybe the tee shirt is really soft, versatile, and durable.
