NLP, like any other machine learning tool, cannot be effectively interpreted without first understanding the framework on which it was built. Like any other framework this begins from the ground up. Before beginning an NLP project, there should be clear requirements definitions set out with project stakeholders to define the scope and purpose of the project. What is the point of the project? What is the specific, measurable goal the model is meant to achieve? From these questions, it becomes more straightforward to begin data selection, decide on algorithms and models, and to define acceptance criteria that must be met in order to consider the project complete and successful. Beginning without these criteria starts you off on poor footing.

2 Choose an appropriate model

NLP models can vary widely in terms of complexity, architecture, and data requirements. Depending on your goal, you may need to choose a different type of model. For example, if you want to analyze the sentiment of a tweet, you may use a simple classifier based on word embeddings. Choosing the right model in very important when analysing text data and depends on factors such as the length of your sequences, the type of data you have (e.g. genetic sequences or email texts) or the amount of data you have at your disposal (transformers work well on large datasets). here an overview of model architectures: RNNs: Suitable for sequential data but can suffer from vanishing gradient problems. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs): Effective for tasks like text classification or image classification. Transformers: Ideal for a wide range of NLP tasks, especially when using large pre-trained models like BERT or GPT-3. LSTMs and GRUs: More sophisticated RNN variants that handle sequential data better than vanilla RNNs.
