One safety way to dispose sharps and needles is to use a safety box. This box is a very thick carton like pack. It's so thick that it's very hard for needles and sharps to pierce through. It's very good for also depositing slides too.

I know of several needlestick injuries and near misses involving first aid providers and private security personnel. In one incident, a first aid provider attempting to give an EpiPen for anaphylaxis injected themselves into - and through - the thumb and thumbnail!
