Similar to many different types of work, become a commercial sUAS pilot requires dedication and practice/experience. If you're at the point in your life where you can afford to buy a prosumer level drone and dedicate the next 3 months of your life to flying regularly, while starting to build a portfolio in a particular industry you're interested in pursuing, then by all means, take the leap. And don't forget to pass your Part 107 :) This industry is consistently filled with new remote pilots that get excited about flying drones, but don't understand that long-term success depends on either finding a full-time job with sustainable pay and realistic growth prospects, or building a business. Learning to specialize also helps tremendously.

Flying drones is only half the equation when it comes to building a long-term drone career. And "success" can only be defined by what you personally find fulfilling. Whether you're excited about FPV racing, autonomy, deliveries, specific software and functionality, forestry, agriculture/agriscience, geospatial analysis, cinematography or one of the other many specialties this industry has to offer, there are definitely a variety of interests & topics to look into as you grow your career in the industry. Sometimes, you have to try one line of work or specialty to understand that you're actually more interested in a different one. Be patient and focus on what you're interested in (and what you're actually good at).
