I think it’s imperative for the field of AI to understand, and those using it to recognize, that the bias we are uncovering is deeply seated in access to participation or awareness of clinical trials for data collection in the underrepresented. If we don’t encourage this population to trust the technology and allow them the services that have access to these novel databases/trials/clinics - we will continue to have a “bias” that precludes adequate analytics to be performed.

This makes it ultra-important to choose a performance measure that exactly reflects how the business is going to use the predictions. I have seen more common scenarios where nDCG turns out to be a widely accepted metric. Especially because of the nature of recommendations provided to the user. If you are showing products to a customer you need to be dead sure about what you present to them first. The is especially true in the age of short attention spans.
