How can you develop a clear vision for your Sales Operations team?

I always go back to the foundation. A house may look great from the outside, great paint, nice landscape but the foundation may be cracked which in the long run will bring the whole house down. A back to basics approach of digging in to understand the lay of the land, perspectives from the team and support partners is a good place to start. Then driving the data piece to understand any outlying situations or match back to the feedback. Once we understand the challenges we can create a north star and tie in company goals to make incremental strides in achieving our goals.

Having the team really understand the goals and culture of the Sales team they support is a great first step. From there, you can work to create a vision for the sales Ops team that aligns with the 'customers' they support. First build the 'reason to believe' then fold in the details, goals , milestones etc....

I think having a clear vision for Sales Ops teams can come from having clear vision of the business for a stipulated period of time, how the sales leadership is aligning to the vision , what are the key results to be driven and what are the objectives to drive these forward. We should always remember Sales and Sales Ops are just two sides of one coin so both the leaderships should be aligned on common Key Results and Objectives. Sales Ops Leaders also should keep in mind that their teams exist to help the Sales Frontliners analysis, research and give specific inputs for them to perform their jobs better and elevate all bottlenecks for them.

To Start with 1, Vision of the Company Should be told In 3 minutes. 2, Employees Should be told what is in it for them if the Vision is achieved. 3, Laid out Simplified Sales process to achieve the Vision. 4, Emphasise on the Sales process is Very Critical. 5, Leader Should talk about the Vision to employees frequently So that employee understands that the leader is bent upon achieving the Vision with the help of employees. 6, Leader Should Support Success & failure and will only reprimand inaction. 7, Leader Should follow up with the employees daily So that if any Course Correction Could be done keeping in mind the Vision to be achieved. 8, Last of all Leader has to get his hands dirty with the employees to achieve the Vision.

Things change, and recognizing and adjusting will help to continue the execution throughout the year.

One thing I've found helpful is create your key metrics early in the job and publish them weekly for the team to see. Do not mention where the takeaway is negative. The dashboard would talk for itself

Now it's time for monitoring: Review your data daily, comparing it with AI predictions. Identify the factors contributing to both positive and negative metrics, and utilize weekly meetings to communicate the team's progress and areas for improvement. Lead with kindness and passion toward achieving team goals. Foster unity among your team members, empowering them and delegating responsibilities to those best suited to enhance performance.

I have found a couple of pieces super helpful in defining the vision of Sales Operations: 1) Map out full customer lifecycle as a value chain (from account / prospect to nurture to lead to opp to paid customer to high value customer to retained customer (for SaaS, repeat purchase for non-SaaS models). List out 4 key pieces under the value chain: People, Process, Systems, KPIs —> highlight what’s working or not working under each. Your vision is basically what follows as a roadmap to fix what’s “not working” and optimise what is 2) Highlight Company vision, outline starting point today and build the enablers required. Most importantly prioritise these levers on a 2x2 of “potential impact” vs “likelihood to succeed” to define your strategy
