Something that can be really helpful in predicting failure in a timely manner is having a physics based model of the robot (I typically use Simscape). Then you can see when motor currents (or similar) start deviating from the expected results, or even model possible faults and see what component fault leads to similar behavior. Key here is having a model that is based in physics...

Number of used hours does not say much. The lifetime of the robot is estimated assuming that each axis is active only a part of the time. If your application loads specific axes constantly, you might expect a shorter life time. It is good to have a conversation with your supplier during the purchasing time. Make a simple analysis about how the specific robot is used and what axes are working harder or more than the other. If you can, switch the robots between different applications so that you use all axes more or less similarly over the time. Sometimes it is possible to reduce the load by small modifications in the path. Do the analysis during the setup time and avoid shortening of life time if it is possible.

While installation make sure you read the manual for operation and installation to avoid any accidents and to avoid getting injured. Regular maintenance should be conducted in order to avoid malfunction and to avoid breakdowns. There should be a person in charge of checking the robot for any faulty parts. Even a faulty screw could be fatal. Only let skilled labour to work with and around the robot and provide safety cautions such as fire extinguisher, helmet etc. Don't promote the working of the robot for extensive time periods.
