To design a user-friendly product for multiple platforms: Responsive Design: Ensure the user interface adapts seamlessly to various screen sizes and resolutions, providing a consistent experience on mobile, tablet, and desktop. Consistent UI/UX: Maintain a uniform visual design, navigation structure, and user flow across all platforms, so users feel comfortable and familiar regardless of the device they use. Platform-Specific Optimization: Tailor the product's functionality to leverage each platform's unique features and capabilities, enhancing user experience and performance.

First things first - Understand the user in terms of day to day activities and needs - this will help you understand what platforms do they actually need now and may need later. This will help you narrow down your scope in terms of: - Screensize: Desktop/Laptop, Mobile phone, Mobile tablet or all of the above - OS: Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, combo or all of the above? - Webapp vs Native App or both? - Online only or Offline required? Once you have this understanding, you can then see what type of tech stack may best fit these needs and the type of talent you will need. It will also help you understand your limitations and help make decisions on what is ideal state vs what may be realistic given your limitations (time, money, talent, etc)

Native frameworks for development of more performant applications across devices. 4. Analytics/tracking to keep improving: More the data we have, the better we would know about placement around the screen(s) (and much more)

Some important things to keep in mind - Ease of use of components and features used across platforms - Sticking to intent of functionalities and improving value driven by features portals - Focus on the end result across platforms e.g. a shopping app need to stick to basic shopping experience first and then only enhance lateral functionalities which may give additional revenue. - Consistency of UX flows and Designs across platforms - Release and development planning process across platforms so that GTM happens at same time. We can not deploy new versions of features on Android and wait for months for web versions. Does not give a consistent experience

In my experience as a Product Manager especially in the aerospace industry, product managers must take the role as customer's representative at the product team and help the product development team to build the products on the empathy towards users alongwith their safety and security. The Product Manager must focus on target users requirements analysis and drive the direction & speed for the product roadmap. On the bold, the products without users or their desired preferences are for no use. So, before building products, user understanding is a fundamental concern for enhancing user-friendly ability.

From my experience, in almost every company you have to fight for the core functions from a customer perspective - at least from time to time. Why? It is not uncommon for companies to look for new sources of revenue over time. Often, the focus is then only on business features and the customer is quickly forgotten. But who were the customers who made us big and why did they buy from us? Are these customers still with us today and do they have different requirements? These questions should be clarified and kept high on the company's agenda. Otherwise, you run the risk of turning a good product into a feature farm.

Define the Jobs to be done by your product! Based on the core problem identified, define the major action(s) that user would be able to perform with your application. On a high level, this should be consistent across the platforms.

Identify the key features that are essential for your users on different platforms. Prioritize these features based on user needs and the platform's capabilities. By defining core features, you ensure that the product remains focused, functional, and user-friendly across various devices and operating systems.

As a product leader, my perspective on choosing the right design approach would be: Main Recommendation: Choose a design approach based on strategic alignment, user needs, and long-term maintenance. Strategic Alignment: 1. Responsive Design: Fast market entry, and brand consistency. 2. Native Design: Superior user experience and platform-specific features. 3. Adaptive Design: Balance between customization and efficiency. User-Centric Approach: 1. Base decisions on user feedback and platform-specific behaviour. Maintenance Considerations: 1. As a product leader, my design approach is API first. I think it is a mistake to educate people that they have to make this decision at this step without first talking architecture and API. Who's talking about "screen sizes" when AR and voice become the next interface?

It's the PM's job to communicate openly with users about their feedback, and demonstrate that their input is valued and inform them of any resulting changes . One key are for the success is ‘Test and iterate’ to jointly hear the feedback from who knows why the need. No matter the way, it could be wireframe or other methodology. As cloud services, I do recommend rapid prototype.

Different devices and platform behave in their own way there is nothing like one fit for all, you have to always customize the experience depending up on screen size, resolution and even end customer, always make sure you are open to such changes and have tight feedback loops.

One thing that I would add is the market and industry research, but not necessarily not in the specific industry. Consider all the customer journey and all the ecosystem.

In my experience, while designing user friendly features across platforms and form factors it’s important to first differentiate horizontal capabilities like customer service, search, notifications etc. from vertical capabilities specific to the user cohorts. This helps drive consistency in design while supporting personalization.

Following design guidelines and standards, making the product design responsive enough to be used in different types of devices. Trust your design and front end team on that and explain the requirement clearly. Proper UAT before release is also mandatory to make sure the product performs equally in all platforms.
