To achieve this one must consider the following; the use of the structure, which will be used in degerming the structural loads, the conditions of the location which help in determining foundation type, the design codes that will help in design specifications of the materials, structural sizing, and ensuring robustness. Finally, one can use software like Etabs and robots for analysis and study the behavior of the structural element and then finally design the structure

During load analysis, an engineer should anticipate the loads a structure will carry during operation and assigning every load with appropriate load type as well as load combinations. This should be done by the help of design standards such British, Eurocode, ISO e.t.c. If desig is done manually, in many cases the load combination with maximum loads would be choosen for structural analysis rather for software design an engineer sholud make sure every load assigned is there and effected as he or she anticipated, this will help to avoid errors and avoid to and fro during design phase.

Structure optimization is key to every Structural Engineer! You need to design the most efficient and cost-effective safe structure. Software like ETABS, Robot Structural Analysis, etc., greatly help with this. You optimize your design to have the least variables with your structural members.

In my opinion structural optimization is the most effective option to ensure safety. For example in high rise buildings the dead load is too high which is the reason for significant inertia under severe loading conditions. Performance-based design is the key method to achieve now a days certain standards, so the buildings structural and non structural components can perform accurately against lateral loads for users safety, minimizing the risk of collapse of the structure, detachment of masonry, water and mechanic facilities, as well as the falling out of movable equipment within the buildings.
