How can you deliver effective public speaking remotely?

Being remote Public speaking Trainor ( Middle east , Russia and turkey) region from Prysmian , I have few points to reiterate 1) Let silence do the work in between. Well timed Pause after powerful message , will give the audience time to fully absorb the message, 2) Controlling speed , so that Brain and Tongue synchronise with each other , utter every word with clarity. 3) Structure your thought through story telling technique , Opening, Body and conclusion. 4) Levearge every opportunity to face the audience .It does not matter size of the group 5) Record ,and rehearse , Body language . Tiny ttweaks can lead to big changes.

Introducing the BEAR: For all my talks, both online and in-person, I use the following structure (inspired by the 4C's of Training From the Back of the Room) * B-Beginnings: check in with the participants, create connections to the topic to each other, get their brains ready for learning, have participants tune in. * E-Exchange: exchange or transfer knowledge * A- Apply: have attendees do something with what they learned, and heard. Practice with it, summarize it, share it, etc. * R-Real life: conclude by identifying how to use the newly learned information in real life. Each of these segments takes at most 20 minutes to make sure the brains of the attendees will keep focus and not be distracted.

I mostly work with a 3 structure: - Past, present, future - 3 main topics - 3 main take away before closing The opening and the closing are crucial. Is what the audience will remember the most. Make it memorable.

One thing I found helpful is to find a headset with a dedicated microphone or buy a dedicated microphone yourself. This does wonders for your speech and also could potentially reduce the background noise. If you plan on speaking a lot during virtual meetings this would greatly enhance your delivery.

Always control your environment. As much as possible, be prepared and don't present on the go, without camera on, or in any condition where you might be distracted or interrupted. If the tools you're using are new, set aside a minimum of 20min to test everything, ideally do it the day before. Investing in a quality microphone (I strongly recommend Blue Yeti) and headset is worth it. For max reliability, use wired headset and microphone.

For the remote setting, you can even record yourself and play it back. Time your speech and test it a couple of times to ensure it is flowing. For higher stakes presentations (e.g. larger groups, presenting to very important stakeholders, etc.) you should do as Stand-up Comedians and test your presentation with a smaller audience. Not simply a rehearsal or a dry run, but simply presenting to a smaller audience. This will help your test the flow of your talk track as well as the audience reaction to the content of the presentation.

Evaluating your performance should include asking for feedback from those who invited you to speak. If it was your event, ask those who attended for honest feedback. If you are used to positive, flattering feedback, be prepared for negative feedback. Remember to break down the evaluation into an evaluation on style/delivery and an evaluation on substance.

Visuals are very important when delivering a talk remotely. Be intentional about what is in your background. If possible, customize your background to make it about your audience. For example, I recently spoke for a large insurance company, and my background was the sun rising over their iconic skyscraper. Small touches like that connect you quicker to your audience, and connection is the most important part of any talk.

People won't remember all you present, so you must focus your message on the things you want them to retain. To do this, your presentation should be relatively short, and your supporting materials should not be overloaded with information. A good heuristic to sharpen your presentation into focus is to follow the 10 / 20 / 30 rule: max 10 slides, max 20 minutes, min font-size 30 pt per slide.

- Take a step back so your upper body is within focus. - Give the presentation standing to instill more energy. - Look at the camera when talking so people feel you are looking to them - Make pauses - Work on your diction
