1 What is a boot sequence?

A boot sequence is the process that your computer follows to load an operating system from a storage device, such as a hard disk, a CD-ROM, or a USB drive. The boot sequence involves several steps, such as checking the hardware, initializing the BIOS, loading the boot loader, and selecting the operating system. The boot sequence can vary depending on the type and number of operating systems installed on your computer, and the configuration of the boot loader.

Boot Sequence - Every time a machine boots up, it does a self check to ensure everything is in order hardware and firmware wise and loads up the Operating System(OS). The task sequence in this period is called a boot sequence, boot-order etc. Bootloader- At boot-order, after the hardware checks, the boot loader makes sure all the required OS data is loaded on to the main memory. You can customize the boot sequence in windows on the BIOS it self. Your PC should show a Key or Key sequence to press at the very startup to access BIOS setup. Go to the Boot menu there. Usually the default order is: 1. OS Boot, 2. USB, 3. CD/DVD, 4. Network. typing bcbedit on terminal provides current boot config.

3 How to customize the boot sequence in Windows?

If you have a Windows-based computer, you can use the built-in tool called BCDEdit to modify the boot configuration data (BCD), which is a database that stores the information about the boot sequence. If you have a Linux-based computer, you can use different tools depending on the boot loader you have. 5 How to customize the boot sequence in Mac OS?

If you have a Mac OS-based computer, you can use the Startup Disk preference pane to select which operating system to boot by default. You can access this pane from the System Preferences, or by holding the Option key while booting.
