Any number of ways! You can create your illustration with traditional media--marker, paint or pencil--then bring it into a program such as Photoshop to tweak it, play with the color, add background, special effects. I would consider it adding digital enhancements. But you can also create a line drawing with a pencil or pen and then color it using Photoshop so that the blend between traditional and digital is more 50/50. It's all about experimentation to achieve the effect you desire.

As someone else mentioned, you can start with a hand sketch and then color it in Photoshop, or one of my students' favorites, ProCreate. This is how I tend to address it with my students. It allows them to still sketch with paper and pencil, which is what a lot of them really enjoy, but then introduce digital coloring, which can be really fun!
