How can you create a global classroom community?

Consider where your students are gathering already. For computer science students, for example, they are likely already contributing code to Open Source repositories using programs such as Hacktoberfest and building web sites and notebooks to hone their skills. GitHub, as a platform, offers a surprising community-building mechanism called Discussions that act as a forum, and can be used to build community by means of discussion. Go where your students are, and consider engaging them there, perhaps within your classroom's context.

By using technology to facilitate virtual meetings and cross-cultural initiatives; at the same time, we think the use of collaborative learning environments and a variety of information to promote empathy is one of the best to create and promote global classroom community.

This plan not only aligns with the international mindedness fostered in IB schools but also aims to enhance learning and collaboration.

Here are some of them I regularly use: * Video Conferencing Platforms: Utilize tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet for virtual face-to-face interactions, lectures, and discussions. * Online Quizzing and Polling Tools: Platforms like Kahoot! or Quizizz can make learning more interactive and engaging. * Language Translation Tools: Implement translation tools like Google Translate to break down language barriers among a diverse global community.

English language assessments serve as invaluable tools for fostering global classrooms. By standardizing language proficiency evaluation, they enable educational institutions to attract a diverse pool of students and faculty from around the world. These assessments not only ensure academic readiness but also promote cultural exchange and understanding through effective communication and collaboration in English. Tools are not only a notebook and paper now. We’re in a generation where tech basically controls our lives but the main aspect is gathering the right tools for the right students and using them effectively in a classroom setting.

Setting the stage right from day one, by discussing each other's diverse perspectives, experiences etc, is an asset to be celebrated, cherished, and leveraged. 1. Discuss the value of having a diverse student body; 2. Brainstorm ways to leverage it; 3. Then discuss challenges and have a class agreement to overcome them.

Building trust and effective communication is key. Getting the buy in from all of those whom are participating is key. However we all know they must trust first.

Building trust goes a long way because it deepens the connection between the teacher and students. Everyone has their own way of dealing with problems as it mostly derives from family and history . Being more open arms allows this.

There are many ways to build a global Classrooms and the main one is designing collaborative activities. Collaboration on shared projects and students exchange would help. Moreover, providing international seminars and workshops is another way to build a global Classrooms. Asking for assignments that are focused on international companies would also help. The list can goes on.

Collaborate, reflect and learn preparing to become global citizen. It's the best thing to have a diverse classroom as it builds an environment for cultural adaptability. And subtle learning creating a generation of people who can operate in global environment effectively. Administrators and managers of today need to adapt and learn, keeping a flexible mindset. So it's the environment to prepare future entrepreneurs and managers

In an ideal world, we want to have a classroom of students from a diverse ethnic and socio-economical background to create a global community. In reality, it’s a lot more challenging to attract an equal number of students from different countries other than those from China and India. One way to overcome this is to share class time and collaborate on projects with classes in sister universities abroad. Make it a credited part of the programme so that students will participate and take the assignments seriously.
