One easy way to get the inspiration for this is just to spend plenty of time listening to different genres of music to absorb the rhythm and beat and differences between all the different genres. Then it's helpful to layout "shell's" or templates for each of your desired genres that you plan to add to your portfolio. Once a shell is developed it's much easier to get started producing leads, harmony, etc. I typically create a shell by just applying a simple beat that is within the genre that I am aiming for. Then I save the template as that genre.

Having your own style is important to avoid copyright infringement. Being able to effectively execute and express inspiration that comes from your mind is how real art is made. I typically spent hours just creating my own drum sounds. I spent a lot of time manipulating the parameters of ESP's and other polyphonic synthesizers within my DAWs. I save each different sound that I create as the name of the instrument I intend to replicate using that synth. This provides me the ability to be completely original in the professional work that I do for clients.

Collaboration is so important. We can't always be as inspired as we want to be. There is a very controversial statement that was made in the midst of a lawsuit decades ago regarding a musician being sued for copyright infringement. The anonymous individual stated. "inspiration always flows from one person to another, so technically we're all guilty of some form of copyright violation." This concept doesn't necessarily convey that we should outright steal someone else's work and use it as our own as that by definition is a copyright violation. The statement simply means that it always takes one person to inspire someone else who then inspires someone else. This inspiration leads to art.

These days how you express yourself and your beliefs can land you in hot water both within your community and online. I find it best to keep your political and personal beliefs to yourself. If you vote a certain way, express it at the ballot box, not online. If your faith leans a certain way, worship at your place of worship. Your place of work is not a place of worship, your place of work is not a polling location or an appropriate place to protest. These days with the economy being as bad as it is, it's best and safest to keep work at work, and home at home. Be professional not personal.
