Some Ways to Get Started Hiring Bartenders: 1 - Ask the prospect how to make several drinks - require they provide amounts of each ingredient, not just a list. The object isn't for them to know your house version, just to see if they understand basic, balanced cocktail ratios. 2 - Put them behind the bar and have them demonstrate the technique they use for making a stirred and strained cocktail, a shaken and strained cocktail, and a hot drink (Irish Coffee or the like). How are they handling the mixing spoon? How many times are they stirring? ...How are they breaking the seal on the Boston Shaker? How many times are they shaking it? Are they pre-heating the hot drink's mug/glass? Are they asking for Heavy Whipping Cream to fresh whip it?
