You should also consider the size, complexity, and diversity of your operations, and the resources and time available for the analysis.

2 Review the standard

The second step is to review the standard or criteria that you want to use as a benchmark for your gap analysis. For example, if you want to assess your compliance with ISO 14001, you should familiarize yourself with its requirements, clauses, and terms. Engaging external auditors periodically to assess your EMS against the standards and confidently receive an unbiased evaluation.
